NSW invasion at Shannons Rally Retro Festival

Six iconic European rally cars will finally make it to RRF in 2024…

The most significant contingent of iconic European rally cars yet will make its way from NSW for Shannons Rally Retro Festival, on Saturday 17 February 2024.

Included in the group are no less than 3 World Rally Lancias (037, Stratos, Delta Integrale) a Renault R5 Turbo. a Fiat 131 Abarth and a Ferarri 308 GTB, all with a pedigree earned in European Rally Championships.

Transport of such exotic rally machinery will be in the hands of Move My Wheels. Powered by PrixCar Services, Move My Wheels is Australia’s leading vehicle transport service provider, delivering dreams to driveways around the country every day of the week.

For the first time at the Shannons Retro Rally Festival, fans will be able to witness these six icons of rallying in attendance with thanks to the transport being provided by Move My Wheels.

RRF Event Director, Rob Cranston said “We’ve been trying to get these cars down to the festival for many years. With the assistance of Move My Wheels, we’ve able to make it happen for 2024. We couldn’t be happier.”

Held at the METEC driver education centre in Victoria’s suburban Bayswater North, Shannons Rally Retro Festival is unique among car displays in that it is specifically for Rally Cars of note and it puts those cars “on the track” over a specially designed rally course adjacent to the display area. Rally fans can and hear see their favourite rally cars in action.

The cars on display are handpicked and invited by the organisers for their historic significance and their links with famous rallies from the 1950’s onwards. While many of the original cars are beautifully restored to the condition they started their first rally, others are in an “as rallied” condition with all the genuine patina that goes with it. Still others are faithful replicas built when the original cars no longer exist.

Invited rally cars include those from the Datsun, Renault and Ford works teams from the 1970’s and early 1980’s, the Australian Championship Toyotas Celica’s of Neal Bates Motorsport and a sprinkling of World Rally championship cars resident in Australia that rarely see the light of day.

Shannons Rally Retro Festival opens to the public at 10:00 am and the cars take to the track from around 11:00 am. Entry is $10 per person (over 16 years). Visitors will be able to view the action from the car display area, as well as mingle with the cars and their owners. Food vendors and toilets will be on site.

METEC Driver Education centre is at 112 Colchester Road, Bayswater North.
